Who would be the audience for your media product?

"Hey I am Simon and I am being part of the primary audience for the film ‘HUMANOID’. I am a male and I am 17, currently studying my A Levels which would mean that I’m in the demographic group D/E. As I am a male; I am more likely to watch a Sci-Fi film than a girl. Also, I, as a teenager, like to relate my life to a film which is why I also watch ‘Coming of Age’ films. This is why I am interested in films like ‘HUMANOID’, because of its genre and it has got a male protagonist that I can relate to; I can relate to the protagonist’s life as it is almost the same like mine, and when he go hangout with his friend - because I do hangout with my friends as well – is also relatable. But I’d like to imagine myself to be the protagonist as, in real life, the chances of me finding a clone are nil. So that is sometimes what I do when or after watching a film. The music that it’s got is also nice, it’s upbeat, which is the sort of music I listen to, and it could also indicate that the characters would go on an adventure – which make it more interesting."

4th Cut - Humanoid

This is our 4th cut and on this one we have done some changes that solve some of the problems from the previous cut.

What we have done:
  1. Trim the first scene shot and the music - make it a little shorter, and change the first typography text onto a black screen.
  2. Made a couple of clips faster by a little - also to make the opening sequence shorter.
  3. Reorder the titles to the correct order and change some of the font colours as some of it are not read-able.
  4. Added the radio voice over and the other optional sound of the music coming out of the headphones to the opening sequence.

And the feedback that we've got was:
  1. The first scene is still a little too long.
  2. Radio man voice over sound doesn't sound right.
  3. The title order is not right - the 'Humanoid' title still needs to come earlier.
  4. The music stops too early (it stops before they take their headphones off).
  5. The diegetic footsteps sound has a little dip when the shot changes; need minor adjustments.
  6. 'Reaction shot' at the end doesn't look right and both of them reacted at a slightly different times.
  7. The black screen after the fade transition is too long - just remove it completely.
  8. Lastly, the last text at the end should be 'Directed By'.

This clip is so close to it being the final cut, but there are still number of problems / changes we need to do to this cut. We're planning on improving it to the next cut by adding something new to the clip to solve some of the problems and might need to do another recording for the voice.

Storyboard

What I have learnt
Doing this task has helped me to picture how the shots are going to look like and a plan on the order of the shots. This task also related to the shot list, which then would have to be matched.

Risk Assessment

Powered by emaze

What I have learnt
From this task, it has allow me to realise that there are always be risk that could harm the actors and us. Some are minor and some are quite a big risk, but knowing that there are risks has made me to be more cautious.

3rd Cut - Humanoid

This is our 3rd cut:

In our 3rd cut; we have put new clips in and lots of other changes to the opening sequence.

We have added:
  1. New shots at the beginning to make the opening longer.
  2. Added more music into it so it doesn't feel empty.
  3. The shot that fills the time gap when after they walked through the gate.
  4. Added non-diegetic sounds to the clips - where the clone's body gets turned around and when the clone opens its eyes - to give more tense to the scene.
  5. Also a text at the end to add something more to the opening - to create an enigma to the opening.

We then get another feedback from this one which was;
  1. The first shot was too long - it should never be longer than 5-6 secs <- max.
  2. Title 'HUMANOID' needs to come earlier.
  3. The order of the titles is wrong. Need to check the research task and put the titles in the right order.
After getting those feedbacks, we thought and have planned on re-doing some shots - especially the first scene in the house - add a couple more things, like the radio voice over into the opening and we'll improve it on our next cut.

2nd Cut - Humanoid

This is our 2nd cut:

In our 2nd cut, I edited it from the raw footage and forgot to put the music, titles and the institutional company; but slight changes are made.

The noticeable changes would be the last clips; we slowed down the clip of the clone's body being turned around, when the clone open its eyes, and we removed the clip where the boys reacted to the clone. We also include a red eye effect to the clones eyes to show that they are 2 different people (Michael and Michael's clone), which looks great and make it more interesting to watch.
